- Perforation of the uterus or fallopian tube
- Bladder or bowel injury
- Pain
- Cramping
- Vaginal bleeding
- Pelvic or back discomfort
- Headaches
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Dizziness
- Fainting
- Infection
- Allergic reactions (hives, rash, swelling and itching)
- Ectopic pregnancy
- Device migration
In addition, there have been reports of both patient and infant deaths

Essure Warnings and Recalls
In November 2016, the FDA required Bayer to place a
black box warning on Essure packages warning of the risks and potential complications.
In April 2018, the FDA restricted sales of Essure to medical providers who agreed to go through a checklist of potential issues and side effects with patients before agreeing to implant Essure.
In July 2018, Bayer announced that it
cease all sales of Essure in the United States by the end of 2018
